Pune, November 23, 2022: Officers at Chandan Nagar Police Station have arrested an Odisha-based scammer who posed as a Paytm company representative and duped a shopkeeper. The defendant had transferred the loan amount to his account instead of the shopkeeper’s account.
The arrested defendant was identified as Ajit Kumar Akshay Kumar Patnaik, a resident of Chandan Nagar, Pune, who hails from Cuttack in Odisha.
According to police, the accused posed as a representative of Paytm to a shopkeeper in the Chandan Nagar area. He approved the loan from his mobile phone in 10 minutes and deposited the amount of Rs 35,000 into his bank account.
After the fraud became known, the shop owner filed a complaint with the police. Accordingly, the policemen set a trap and caught him.
“The defendant defrauded some people by similarly borrowing through Paytm. Shopkeepers who have been scammed in this way should contact Chandan Nagar Police Station,” appealed Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Landge.

The action was carried out under the direction of Deputy Police Commissioner (Zone 4) Shashikant Borate, ACP Kishore Jadhav and Chief Police Inspector Rajendra Landge. The team consisted of Police Inspector Jagannath Jankar, Sub-Inspector Rameshwar Revale and Suraj Jadhav, Ajay Shelke and Manoj Bhandari.
